GAH

How sad that my only hope of gaining any ground in picks this week is if the Ravens beat the Steelers. At least it gives me some semblance of a reason to even care about the game...I guess.

And well...technically when Dot posted her picks she wasn't right...I was in THIRD place in the fantasy league at that point in fact. However...yeah...after yesterday...I have regained the lead. :P

So...I finally come round that maybe Green Bay isn't cursed after all...they lose...AND Favre scores 5 tds (how many fantasy benches was Favre on I wonder?!). I finally decide maybe Chicago can't win one...they win. I don't even *KNOW* wtf to think about KC (but go me for playing Larry Johnson).

BUT...Cleveland won...and so it was a great week in my world. :P

Dot's NFL Picks Week 4

What Kit didn't tell you while reciting her tale of woe is that she is still leading in our fantasy football league. I feel pretty good about this week in fantasy football however, having picked up the Bills QB who is going against St. Louis, in a dome, and the Rams have let go of their two starting cornerbacks since the start of the season. Of course this means Buffalo will lose in some horrendous fashion, but I'm still picking them because I need my fantasy team to win--I'm in 4th place but moving up the standings after having completely forgotten to do anything with my fantasy team for the first week of the season. I also lost ground to the ESPN folks last week, although the best predictor on their expert panel is a computer, so go figure.

Atlanta Falcons @ Carolina Panthers: I have Michael Turner on my fantasy team and he has been amazingly productive, but I'm not sure Atlanta has what it takes to beat Carolina, especially with rookie QB Matt Ryan going through growing pains. Carolina, but let's hope for 150 yards and two touchdowns from Turner.

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals: This week it is the battle for Ohio. I honestly don't know what to make of either of these teams. I will go with Cleveland, once again to show my support for Kit.

Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars: You know Houston will win some games this season in the grand scheme of things. Week to week however, you pick them to lose them all. Why? Because you're gonna end up with something like 11 wins and 5 losses using this system. See how smart I am? Jacksonville.

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs: Denver wins. The Chiefs suck, not to put too fine a point on it.

San Francisco 49ers @ New Orleans Saints: Saints.

Arizona Cardinals @ New York Jets: Arizona wins, Kurt Warner has a big day.

Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: I see Kit has come around to the Packers. I've been with them all year. Packers.

Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans: /me shrugs. I guess Tennessee.

San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders: San Diego got their first win against the Jets--I don't see how they lose momentum against Oakland. San Diego

Buffalo Bills @ St. Louis Rams: I'm gonna keep taking the Bills, who are my pick to win the AFC East.

Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys: One of those classic NFL match ups if it were the 1970s. It isn't, and the Cowboys win at home.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears: The Eagles. I've given up on the Bears.

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers: I can hear Kit's teeth grinding from here. I will take the Steelers at home.

Week 4 Picks - Kit

WAHHHHH...I'm in deep trouble here...about as deep as the Brownies. I *need* some more W's this week. :(

Atlanta Falcons @ Carolina Panthers: I don't think Carolina will tank two weeks in a row...so...I hafta go Carolina here.

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals: This is like...an easily moveable object meets a completely stoppable force here. At least one team has to come away with a W. I'm banking on the Browns...even though I'm not hot on playing Quinn.

Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars: Hm yeah...Jacksonville.

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs: It wasn't THAT long ago that KC was undefeated and Ocho Cinco was declaring his upstart team would beat them (with Jon Kitna even)...AND...when they did it was as much a stunnning upset as what the Fins did to the Pats last week. What happened to KC? They're beyond effed now...and even if they weren't THAT bad...I'd still pick Denver.

San Francisco 49ers @ New Orleans Saints: I'm backing the Saints on this one!

Arizona Cardinals @ New York Jets: Hm...ok call me crazy but I think the Jets can win this one!!

Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Battle of the Bays. I'll take the Packers.

Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans: I think this one will be really close actually...but I'll take Tennesee by a score.

San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders: Yeah...ok...I know how highly improbably this is...but the voices in my head are taking Oakland for the upset.

Buffalo Bills @ St. Louis Rams: The Rams are at least as effed as KC. Bills.

Washington Redskins @ Dallas Cowboys: Yeah, I know Dallas has to lose. I don't think it's this week though.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Chicago Bears: I think this one will also be close...but I'm behind Philly pulling this one out.

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers: The only really acceptable outcome to this game would be a giant black hole forming in the stadium and sucking both teams in. Barring that improbability...I think the Ravens are going to upset the Steelers at home.

Okies...there we have em...here's to the Browns first win of the season...and to me regaining a little ground! :P

/me Sighs

Well, the Patriots had to lose sometime, but to the Dolphins? At home?!? That's just embarrassing.

Week 3 Picks - Kit

Wheeeeeeeeeeee...it's been one of those weeks as I slide in under the wire to get this week's picks done. ;)

Looks like last week's Baltimore/Houston game has been rescheduled to uhmmmm...week 10 I think...so pick/records over there will be adjusted accordingly. God knows I need all the help I can get...I'm 5 games down now. :(

Kansas City Chiefs @ Atlanta Falcons: Yeah...KC lost to the Raiders. They may be this season's Dolphins. Atlanta picks up another W.

Oakland Raiders @ Buffalo Bills: This one's a cake walk for Buffalo.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears: This should be a good defensive contest...but I think Chicago's the team with the offense to pull it off.

Carolina Panthers @ Minnesota Vikings: Frerotte? Are you kidding me?! I hope they've double padded the stadium walls!! With no Randy Moss to shore Gus up this time around & Steve Smith back in action, the Panthers go 3-0.

Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots: The Fins stand just as much chance to beat the Pats as the Jets did last week: zero. Look for Moss to light it up this week.

Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Giants: Cincy is imploding with no O-line to speak of. Giants appear to be the real deal...and they'll take this one easily.

Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans: Even with perennial backup Kerry Collins, I think the Titans can take this one.

Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Redskins: Washington woke up last week...but I still have more faith in Warner than in the 'Skins quarterback du jour. I take the Cards...but it'll be close.

New Orleans Saints @ Denver Broncos: Ok...I have to give major props to Shanahan for the gutsy call to take the win last week. I think that's a move that gives a team major confidence...and I think they take this one.

St Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks: Guess we're gonna have a 'Who Cares Bowl' every week. The Seahawks got beat by the 49ers...so I'll take the Rams.

Detroit Lions @ San Francisco 49ers: The Lions came so close to upsetting the Packers...I take 'em again this week.

Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens: I can't express my hatred of Baltimore effectively enough. I take the Browns, of course.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts: Indy's definitely exposed & vulnerable...but I think they'll pull this one out.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Philadelphia Eagles: After that showdown with Dallas...Philly has me convinced. I don't think the Steelers can keep up in this one.

Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers: Hmmm...the Packers beat the Vikings...and got lucky when Kitna started throwing ints and handed the game over to them...I have to go Cowboys this week.

New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers: Hmmm yeah. Chargers.

Dot's Picks, Week Three

So last week was good for me: I went 10-5 on my picks, which puts me at 20-11 for the season. I'm hanging with the ESPN experts at this point--that's right Schlereth, I'm coming for you! This weeks also marks the equivalent of the Super Bowl for Northern Ohio: that's right, it is Browns-Ravens this week!

Kansas City @ Atlanta
Is this a trick question? Atlanta

Oakland @ Buffalo
I said it last week and I will say it again: the Bills are the real threat to the Pats in the AFC East. Buffalo.

Tampa Bay @ Chicago
Chicago, but only because they are at home. Oh, also because they are playing Tampa Bay. Yeah, that's an important factor as well.

Carolina @ Minnesota
Minnesota ditched QB Tarvaris Jackson, which is probably what I would have done unless 100 year old Gus Frerotte were my back up. I tossed a coin and it said Carolina.

Miami @ New England
The Dolphins will improve, but not this week, despite Joey Porter's comments. Uh, Joey, have you really looked at your team? I have to go with the team that was won 21 regular season games in a row. Patriots.

Cincinnati @ New York Giants
Cincinnati has come up a loser for me twice now. I'm taking the Giants, which means the Bengals will win, so I'm choosing the Bengals, which mean the Giants will win, which means....oh to hell with it. The Giants win.

Houston @ Tennessee
Tennessee, for lack of caring and to prove I can spell Tennessee.

Arizona @ Washington
So Washington beat the Saints last week. I'm not sure what this proves. I will have to take the 'skins at home even though one data point isn't a trend.

Detroit @ San Francisco
Just shoot me. San Francisco

Saint Louis @ Seattle
Saint Louis is awful. Really and truly awful. Seattle is just kinda awful. I will take Seattle.

New Orleans @ Denver
Denver has received its gift win of the season. They will actually earn this one.

Pittsburgh @ Philadelphia
The Keystone Klash! Eagles had a short week and a bad loss to the Cowboys. I will take Pittsburgh.

Jackonsville @ Indianapolis
Twice I've picked against Indianapolis, twice I've been wrong. I have to go with Indianapolis but good lord, Peyton Manning isn't going to finish the season if his offensive line doesn't improve.

Cleveland @ Baltimore
Part of me wants to pick Baltimore, but Cleveland needs all the positive energy it can get. I will take Cleveland. I <3 Kit.

Dallas @ Green Bay
Green Bay. I have my reasons, most of which have to do with Tony Romo's inherent creepiness.

New York Jets @ San Diego
How's that Tom Brady knee injury working out for you J-E-T-S fans? Shawne Merriman is out with a bad knee too. You know what that means? San Diego wins, that's what.

GAH

I'm getting my booty kicked and so are the Browns. :(

Saturday, September 13, 2008

Week 2 Picks - Kit!

Well...Dot edged me out last week by one game...so it looks like I've got some making up to do this week...let's get to it! :P

Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions: I've seen enough week 1 flukes...and I'm still not sold on Green Bay. I think Detroit pulls this one out at home.

New York Giants @ St Louis Rams: Hmmm yeah...gotta go Giants on this one!

New Orleans Saints @ Washington Redskins: Wow...srsly...Washington's a mess. I say the Saints have this one.

Buffalo Bills @ Jacksonville Jaguars: I think the Jags D have a wrench to throw into Buffalo's plans...taking the Jags at home.

Tennessee Titans @ Cincinnati Bengals: I was surprised by how both of these teams performed last weekend...I think the Bengals bounce back tomorrow though.

Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs: Wait...did I already declare last week's 49ers/Cards showdown the Who Cares Bowl '08? Too bad. Uhm...Chiefs.

Indianapolis Colts @ Minnesota Vikings: As much as I expected Indy to not be prepared for the Bears last week...I seriously don't see them dropping a 2nd one...esp to the Vikings. Colts take this one even if Peyton has to do it himself.

Chicago Bears @ Carolina Panthers: I don't think Delhomme can pull off a miracle against this defense...and the Bears go 2-0.

Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: It was good to see Atlanta win last weekend after all the crap they've been through the past year...but...the Bucs always had Vick's number...and I think they're still going to dominate this young team.

San Franciso 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks: Jeez. Srsly I am so unsold on Seattle. But I reckon they're better than the Niners. I take Seattle...but I bet it'll be closer than it oughta.

San Diego Chargers @ Denver Broncos: Shawne Merriman is a huge loss...but then again beating Oakland isn't exactly something to write home about. I think this is a close one but Mile High is legendarily difficult...so I'm taking Denver by a nose.

New England Patriots @ New York Jets: Welcome back to the planet Earth, Jets fans. If you think Belichick is going to let Mangini outdo him, you've got another think coming. Pats all the way.

Miami Dolphins @ Arizona Cardinals: The Fins get their first win a helluva lot earlier than they got it last season.

Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans: This game is delayed again now...and Ike is likely to be in the heads of the Houston players...which could make them play better or worse. My pick is still the same as it would've been otherwise though...if the Ravens can hold the Bengals to 10 points...Houston doesn't stand a chance.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns: Cleveland. Of course. We're going to send those Steelers fans home w/their effing towels between their legs.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys: This should be a fun game to watch...and I think Philly has a real shot...but Dallas ain't St Louis...and I think the 'Boys pull this one out.

Dot's Picks, NFL Week Two

Kit has made some amazing football inspired clothes--the "Old School" collection is now available at CKS Designs!

I edged out Kit last week, with a 10-6 record. Will the tables turn this week? We shall see.....

My picks for this week:

Tennessee at Cincinnati

I like the Bengals. I'm expecting Vince Young's mother to call me any minute to bitch at me for not supporting her son.

Green Bay at Detroit

At least Detroit has the Raiders to point to as being worse than they are. Of course, this is like a South Dakotan making fun of a North Dakotan, but you have to work with what you have. Green Bay all the way.

Oakland at Kansas City

And Oakland, searching for a team to feel superior to, chooses the Washington Generals. Since they don't play the same sport, Oakland is confident they won't be called out. Kansas City wins.

New York Giants at St. Louis

The picks this week are so easy and logical that there has to be catch. This game isn't it. Giants.

Indianapolis at Minnesota

I'm going out on a limb and picking Minnesota. Indianapolis' offensive line leads to Peyton Manning being double stuffed more than once.

New Orleans at Washington

The Saints.

Chicago at Carolina

Carolina.

Buffalo at Jacksonville

For all the talk about the Jets being able to leapfrog the Patriots, the Bills are the team with a better chance. Doctors still haven't invented a Jetsectomy.

San Francisco at Seattle

This is like choosing between liver and liverwurst. San Francisco, and I'm holding my nose.

Atlanta at Tampa Bay

Matt Ryan threw a touchdown pass in his first NFL pass attempt. So did Michael Bishop. Who's that? Exactly. Tampa Bay

New England at NY Jets

Did you know Tom Brady threw the ball to Tom Brady while also providing pass protection for Tom Brady? Until New England loses, I'm not rational on the subject. New England.

Miami at Arizona

Arizona. No reason, other than Miami sucks.

San Diego at Denver

Shawne Merriman is out for the season. Denver runs over San Diego.

Pittsburgh at Cleveland

Kit is an optimist, God bless her, but Pittsburgh wins this game. On the other hand, Browns fans look forward to a head-to-head sentence diagramming competition with Steelers fans.

Philadelphia at Dallas

I know, I know, everyone thinks the Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl. Dot Lane doesn't do bandwagons. Philadelphia.

Baltimore at Houston

I just don't see the Baltimore offense coming out with any kind of sustained production and their defense isn't as good as it has been in previous years. The scale tips to Houston.

ATTENTION SPORTS ANALYISTS:

OK...just stay with me here...stay with me...

...what you need to do is stop drinking...

...put the Kool-Aid down onto the desk...

...good...STAY WITH ME...

...now...back away slowly...you can do it...I promise...

...now breathe deeply...and start using your heads...

Yeah...Tom Brady is out for the season...and yes, it's a *HUGE* blow to New England. But before we go declaring the Jets the heir apparent to the AFC East crown, we really need to stop and consider a few things:

1) I know I lost the pick last week...but...I still stand behind what I said about the Jets & the Dolphins being evenly matched. Want proof? Sure: That WILDASS toss Favre put up & Stuckey pulled down could have just as easily gone AGAINST the Jets as it went for them. If Revis doesn't intercept Pennington's last toss...it's likely a Fins TD, and game. Still not convinced? Check the game stats. That game could have *just* as easily gone the other way...the Jets didn't prove a thing.

2) I know this is sacrilege...but I'm sorry to inform you that Brett Favre is not God. He is a legend for many reasons...and I have the utmost respect for him...but take a look back at Green Bay's record since 2000. Sure they got into some playoffs...but they've been on a downswing from the glory days of the 90's. Last season was their best in a while...and the NFC North isn't exactly tough. Is he an asset to any team? You betcha. Does it mean the team is suddenly ALL THAT? Uhm, no.

3) The Jets won 4 games last season. TWO of those games were against the Dolphins...one was against the Chiefs. Hi...are we really ready to say this team is a realistic super bowl contender one year later? I realize they made other moves besides *just* acquiring Favre...but...come on...you tell me how up you'd be on this team if Pennington (or Clemens) were at the helm right now...and I'll tell you uh huh...that's just what I'm saying.

4) Yes, Tom Brady is also a living, playing legend at qb at this point in his career. Yes, losing a player of that caliber would be a huge blow to *any* team. But...do the Pats begin and end with Tom Brady? No...they don't. Love or hate 'em...this is one of the most solid teams in the NFL right now...at every position, and on both sides of the ball. It takes a helluva lot more than a great quarterback to compile the record they have in the past 7 years. So while they won't amass the W's and the numbers they would with Brady...their season is far from over. I still think they're the most likely team to win the AFC East...and the Bills are the biggest contenders to upset that at this point...*not* the Jets.

Ok...there's my rant for the week. :P

Dot's Monday Picks

Oops! I forgot Monday. Today was a mixed bag for me, given my record--Atlanta? Are you kidding me? Worst of all was Tom Brady's knee injury.......

7:00pm EST:
Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers: I like Green Bay, in a sort of "shock of the new" win.

10:15pm EST:
Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders: Seriously, the Raiders? I predict a close game, with the Raiders finding a novel way to lose it at the end.

Saturday, September 6, 2008

Week One Picks - Kit

As Dot noted...picks are not against the spread here...we're all about keeping it simple! ;)

Sunday Games:

1:00pm EST:
Detroit Lions @ Atlanta Falcons: I have to go with Detroit on this one. I think they're a team on the upswing...and the Falcons are likely to be better, but still struggling.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens are a bit of a mess right now (and awwwwww...I'm *so* upset about that). Cincy has been poised to break through with a huge season for a few years now...will this be the year they finally pull it together? I'm definitely backing Cincy this week.

Seattle Seahawks @ Buffalo Bills: I'm not sold on Buffalo...but I've *always* thought the Seahawks of the past few seasons were overrated. I give this one to the Bills.

New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins: Well well. While I appreciate Dot's 'spork' analogy...I think it's fair to remember that the Jets only won *three* more games than the Fins last season. (That's 5 total W's, COMBINED, for these two teams, for those of you playing along at home.)I have all the respect in the world for Favre as a player...but it takes more than a great quarterback to fix a team. I don't expect miracles in Miami either but, I also have a lot of respect for what Bill Parcells brings to an organization. So, let's say I think they're playing on pretty even ground at this point...and this week, I'm giving the edge, just barely, to Miami.

Kansas City Chiefs @ New England Patriots: I don't think the Patriots are looking at another undefeated season...but I do think they're one of the 2-3 best teams in the league. Forget the buzz about Brady's foot...he'll be there...and he'll be productive. Pats all the way on this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints: I really think this is one's kinda tough to call. When the Saints are on, they're ON...but Tampa's D can be fierce. I give the edge to the Saints at home.

St. Louis Rams @ Philadelphia Eagles: Philly typically starts their season strong...I expect this one to be all theirs.

Houston Texans @ Pittsburgh Steelers: I don't think the Steelers are all that. (Wishful thinking? Maybe.) But the Texans are uhm...well yeah. Steelers by a mile.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Tennessee Titans: Remember when the Titans were the Houston Oilers? Remember when Warren Moon *always* found a way to win? Frequently against the Browns? Yeah, I hated the effing Oilers...and I still hold it against the Titans. I think the Jags D has their number this week...and I'm going Jacksonville.

4:15pm EST:
Dallas Cowboys @ Cleveland Browns: What? Romo creeps Dot out? But but...those dimples! This one breaks my heart...because my Brownies just don't appear to be able to live up to what they started last season. However, call me a homie, point and laugh if you will...I can*not* pick against them. In Cleveland, we thrive on delusion...and yeah, sometimes miracles happen. I take Cleveland. ;)

Carolina Panthers @ San Diego Chargers: The Chargers are a bit like the Bengals...they've been *almost* there for years now. I'm with the Chargers this week.

Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers: Welcome to the 'Who Cares?' bowl '08. Coin toss and my faith in Kurt Warner says Cards.

8:15pm EST:
Chicago Bears @ Indianapolis Colts: OK. Here's my upset of the week. I predict that despite the quarterback shuffle, Devin Hester, Brian Urlacher, & the Bears are gonna make *sure* Peyton makes that special face of disgust. With any luck, we'll get to see him throw a pouty little fit at the post-game press conference as well. I'm taking the Bears by a hair.

Monday Games:

7:00pm EST:
Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers: I predict Green Bay is on the verge of a 'holy crap...we shouldn't have sold Babe Ruth'-esque curse. Gotta take the Vikes on this one.

10:15pm EST:
Denver Broncos @ Oakland Raiders: Has a team ever fallen so far so fast as the Raiders in the past 5 years? Hmm...perhaps *they're* dealing with the curse of Chucky. Either way...the Broncs are gonna kick ass & take names this week.

Dot's Picks For Sunday, 7 Sept

Picks are not made against the spread but I have listed the information for those of you who care or are simply degenerate gamblers. Favorites are listed first.

9/7 1:00 ET Cincinnati -2 At Baltimore
I like Cincinnati. If Chad Johnson has a kid he names him after himself, will he be Chad Ocho Cinco Dos?

9/7 1:00 ET NY Jets -3 At Miami
Jets. I mean, really. Miami? Chad Pennington wants revenge I'm sure, but it's hard to exact revenge with the football team equivalent of a spork.

9/7 1:00 ET At New England -16 Kansas City
Tough to bet on a team giving up so many points to cover. Good thing I just have to pick the winner. Pats in a walk, as I think Tom Brady and Randy Moss still have more to prove.

9/7 1:00 ET At Pittsburgh -6.5 Houston
Steelers, in a tune-up for the battle royale with Cleveland next week.

9/7 1:00 ET Jacksonville -3 At Tennessee
Jacksonville. I dunno why. Defense?

9/7 1:00 ET Detroit -3 At Atlanta
Lions, although Matt Ryan has looked good for Atlanta.

9/7 1:00 ET At Buffalo -1 Seattle
Buffalo. Hey, I like wings better than grunge music. My pics don't have to be rational.

9/7 1:00 ET At New Orleans -3 Tampa Bay
New Orleans. The only team from Florida the Saints are afraid of are the Miami Hurricanes.

9/7 1:00 ET At Philadelphia -8 St. Louis
Philly, although most of me wants to see them get their ass kicked because Arlen Specter is a tool.

9/7 4:15 ET Dallas -5.5 At Cleveland
Sorry Kit. Dallas, although Tony Romo really creeps me out.

9/7 4:15 ET At San Diego -9 Carolina
San Diego. If I were betting the spread, Carolina.

9/7 4:15 ET Arizona -2.5 At San Francisco
Arizona, which, if they win, will prove to John McCain once and for all that San Francisco has provoked God's displeasure for its liberal ways.

9/7 8:15 ET At Indianapolis -9.5 Chicago
Colts. But what I really want is the over under on Peyton Manning making his special face of disgust.

Backfield in Motion: The Song

So I understand that some of readers might be from places other than the United States and the title of the blog might be confusing. I'm not going to try to explain what a backfield in motion is, but you might want to listen to this song. It won't help you understand the title, but it sure is catchy.....

Good Thing I Don't Bet

Giants 16, Redskins 7. Yay Kit!

Giants v. Skins - Week 1 - Kit's Take

So...the 'skins d-line is full of holes...and Jason Taylor is iffy. Just *how* are they gonna stop Brandon Jacobs?!! And...even sans Umenyiora, the Giants are pretty solid...it's not gonna be an easy night for Portis.

The loss of Shockey defnitely hurts the Giants passing game...but all in all I'd say it's a wash...neither team really dominates here...but if one *DID*...I'd have to go w/the G-men for the edge.

Sooooo...yeah...I know Dot would love to think they're not that good...and well...maybe they're not...but...they're better than the Redskins.

I say Giants by 11.

Dot's Take On Giants-Redskins, Week 1

Ah, it's the season opener, and the Giants are at home, giving up 3.5-4 depending upon which line you're reading. In betting terms this means the Giants are getting the standard 3 points for home field and very little respect. Now I'm bitter, of course, about the Giants' win over the Pats in the Super Bowl, so I greatly enjoy the idea that the smart money is thinking the Giants just aren't that good of a team. My prediction? Eli Manning turns into a pumpkin and the Redskins win outright by 10. What do I base this on? Nothing, nothing at all......

Girls & Football? You betcha!!

Kit Maitland: Girl, Browns Fan, Football Lover

It's that time of the year again. Here up north where the seasons change...the days have begun to get milder...the nights have begun to get cooler...the leaves are starting to fall from the trees. It's the beginning of the end of summer...time to go back to school and to start thinking about preparing for the winter ahead. It also happens to be my very favorite time of year...not because I love the weather (though I do)...but because I love football. And I mean...I. LOVE. FOOTBALL. You can have your summer vacations & your holiday seasons...for me...this is as good as it gets. It's that magical time of the year when, to quote one of my favorite NFL Network commericials...we are all undefeated again...when anything can happen. It's *my* spring...and there is nothing in the world like the start of a new game...holding your breath as the ball floats through the air...not knowing what's going to happen next...but hoping...hoping...that it's going to end the way you want.

I come to my own love of football by way of being a life long fan of two teams: the Marshall University Thundering Herd...and the Cleveland Browns. If you know anything about either team...then you know both have dealt with adversity and heartbreak. When you live in Huntington...it doesn't really matter if you're a boy or a girl...it just matters that you're part of a community that's forged a bond with its football team like no other...and you love them...even when they suck (which was *MOST* of the time when I was growing up). Of course the trials of the Browns are legendary: Red Right 88...John effing Elway and his effing Broncos...Art effing Modell...The Helmet...Butch effing Davis...yeah...just keep throwing 'em at us...we can take it...and one day...ONE DAY!!!

So here I am...in my brand spanking new SL Browns outfit...and you might say...'Well Kit! Dot put on a Browns uniform...why didn't you put on a Pats one?'. And to that I'd say well...duh of course she did. I can't help it if *everyone* wants to flee to the Cleve. Can't say as I blame 'em. We have the awesomest fans in the world. Why would I wanna downgrade? ;)

Girls? Football? Bring It On!

Dot Lane Roots For The Browns

We like football. No, scratch that. We *love* football. And we're girls. Go figure right? After all, I went to a college without a football team and the New England Patriots were teh suck when I was young (apart from a Super Bowl appearance in the 90s where they were teh suck, but in front of a billion people so their suckitude was displayed globally and Prince wasn't even on the halftime show that year to at least make me happy I sat through the damn thing). But when you live in New England, well, what are you going to do? You're going to be a Patriots fan and then when Tom Brady comes out of nowhere and plays like a champion *and* looks exactly like what you think the quarterback of your dreams should look like, well, you really sit up and pay attention.

During last season Kit and I kept talking about how great it would be to have a blog where girls talked football because we don't always talk about hair and shoes. I'll let you in on a little secret: we're usually talking about *you* behind your back.

Now, I'm sure you're asking why I'm wearing a Cleveland Browns cheerleading uniform since I love the Patriots so much. Funny you should ask. I'm wearing a Browns uniform as a show of solidarity with Kit, who loves the Browns. And besides, I'm not gorgeous enough to be a Patriots cheerleader, but I should fit right in with the girls of the Browns--short, kinda chubby, sensible shoes. Did I mention that we're gonna talk shit about each other? Yeah, we are. Enjoy!
